Story Of The Horse: Mavis

Hello Everybody!!

Once again, it has been a long time since I have done a Story Of The Horse post. Today I decided to do it on Mavis, one of my newer models, who is also known as Cosette to other model hobbyists.

I got Mavis for Christmas last year (2014. To me "last year" sounds like 2013, so..just clarifying!! :D) She was on the top of my wishlist. She was a limited edition Classic in the rare Arabian Mare by Maureen Love. In fact, the last release of the mold before Cosette was in 2005.

Limited to 2500 pieces, Breyer had decided to take an old mold and give it a new re-vamped color. Cosette most certainly has some pretty bad conformation for a model (besides Khemosabi. That mold is just.......wow. Nothing can get much worse than that in the Breyer factory) but her coloring was just so beautiful, so I decided that I wanted her.

She was/is super photogenic, and it seems as if every angle on her is attractive. I am very pleased with her and love to photograph her!

Mavis is an Pintabian, a mix between an Arabian and a Paint. I decided to name her Mavis after the movie Hotel Transylvania because Cosette seems high strung (sort of) and full of energy, just like the Mavis in the movie.

Look at that head!!!

If you do not have Cosette yet, I would highly suggest her. Especially if you like to take pictures of your models!!! :D

Story Of The Horse: Collin

I am sure that you all know who my favorite model horse is.

Collin

Yes, it is Collin. He is so photogenic in every way, flashy, and just a stunning model. I am waiting for his IMEHA results (the judge is 58.1 % done with the breed show he is in) with an anxiety and excitement. This (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) pretty much describes my excitement. Anyway, back to what I was originally going to talk about..........

I bought Collin at Dover Saddlery last year on December 26th. I had always wanted him since he had come out on the Breyer website earlier (way earlier) that year, but I had always skipped over him when I would come to buy models. As I was in the store debating over him and O Leary's Irish Diamond, my younger sister said "Come on, Alyssa. You have always wanted him, and I am sure that he will do very well in MEPSA. Just get him already!"

So I did.

He has gone to win both Grand and Reserve champions in MEPSA, and hopefully it will be the same for him in the IMEHA.

I will announce the IMEHA results when I see them. :)

Story Of The Horse: Sundance

I am getting excited for the Championship MEPSA show to be finished and get the results. Last year when I got "the box" of awards, ribbons, the championship book, and prizes, I was awarded five Stablemates, and Sundance immediately became my favorite. Completely mint (when I got her anyway) I couldn't be more proud of such a prize. I ran to the computer and looked her up on Identify your Breyer. I knew she was a G2 thoroughbred, but I didn't know what year she was from.

She was the first G2 thoroughbred released, as well as a TB from the Stablemate Collection made in 1998-2001. Sundance was a release from 1998-2002. I was very happy that I got one that old and completely mint. Yippee!

Sundance will be debuting her showing career very soon. I hope she does well and that she has a good photo showing career ahead of her.

I was going to do a Vlog on my model horse collection today, but Blogger didn't allow me to download it. Sorry, Everybody!

Story Of The Horse: Dakota and Flint

I know that I usually only talk about my Traditional's....but I have other sizes too! So, today I decided to write about my newest Classic sized foal, Dakota and his old friend, Flint. I got Dakota on December 26th,  last year. He came in a set with my rearing Classic mustang, Alamo. He is not LSQ, due to some minor masking issues, over-spray, and dark scratches. I was a little disappointed  about that...but he is a great addition to the herd anyway.

I also bought him for another reason. The first Classic foal I ever owned was a grey foal in Dakota's mold. You might recognize his name....Flint.

Yes, that is right. Flint is part of the Cloud's Legacy set made in 2005. I got him at Christmas when I was eight years old. At that age I bought Breyer horses for play......not for showing. I have never seen more rubs on any other horse.  Flint stays on my shelf as a memento from my 'early years' of model horse collecting.

Story of the Horse: Street Smart

This is Street Smart. I got him for my tenth (or eleventh, can't remember) birthday. I actually picked him out myself. I was given money for my birthday, and I spent five hours looking at Breyer horses online. I liked the idea of getting Street Smart because he was part of a set that came with a doll, western saddle, hackamore bridle, and saddle pad. I didn't LOVE Street Smart himself, but because he came with everything, instead of getting something else, I bought him.

When I got Street Smart my Traditional collection was really low. He mostly just watched from above a dresser, watching me play with my rubbed Classics. However, when I got into MEPSA (and when my collection of Traditional's rocketed in numbers) I started to see him a little differently. He didn't place 1st-3rd in any of the shows I have entered him in the past few years, but he is no longer a shelf model overlooking my MEPSA winners and Grand Champions, but will be right alongside them, and even though he may not win any ribbons, he will always have a special place in my heart.

Story of the Horse: Loki

Here is another "Story of the Horse" blog post.

This is Loki

Last year when Loki was released, I didn't really want him because of his position and coloring. I am not usually a fan of grey Breyer horses, and this one I liked even less because of his rose grey coloring. In the picture on the website he just looked...dull. For me, they have to have that "glint" in the eye, even though they may just be models.  I didn't see that in him.

However, on my birthday last year a made a trip to Murdoch's to get some Breyer Horses with my birthday money. Only few Traditional's were available, and out of them I chose Loki. At first he wasn't my favorite, but as time went on he grew on me.

Because he is in a odd position he is hard to photo show in the sunlight. Somehow, I got a good one of him and he is now qualified for the Championship show. I am very excited to see how his results are in the Show!

Story of the Horse: Paintball

Hello all! Every week I am going to a a "Story of the Horse" post. This first on one is about my first Traditional, Paintball.

This is Paintball.

I got him on my 7th birthday. I had been asking my Grandma Mimi to buy me a "Big Horse" for about two years. I already owned three Classics and one Little Bit horse, but I had not yet gotten the coveted Traditional model. I wrote out a list of which ones I wanted, and showed my mom. She told Mimi, who bought me Paintball. It came with the Saddlebred foal, but sadly two years ago the filly broke it's leg and now I can't find it. :( I lost the ribbon that came with the set a few months after I was given him. I loved Paintball, but because I didn't want him to get  "hurt" he stayed on my dresser for about four years. I couldn't figure out a name for him either.

Fast forward a few years. I found out about MEPSA and  I decided to get him off the dresser and do a photo shoot for my first Novice show. He placed Reserve Champion in the first show. I was very proud. I somehow came up with the name Paintball and it stuck.

One thing came to another, and Paintball placed eighth and third in the Championship show of my first year. This years he has placed third in Gaited and Stallion.  He is qualified for this year's Championship Show on the 15th of June. Wish him luck!!
