Riding with Mrs. June

Hello everyone!

Today Ollie, Billie, my mom and I all were trailered (well, we rode in the truck...the horses were trailered) by Mrs. June to her house where she has a big track and 35 acres. We worked on lots of stuff, like flying lead changes, passing horses on the rail, the cloverleaf pattern, collection, bending....etc. I also saw Rusty again, who was the horse I learned the start of my Natural Horsemanship with. I thought y'all would probably enjoy some pictures, so here you go!

"Mommy wait! Let me pose for the camera! 1, 2, 3....tongue!!!"

An Old Friend

Last weekend I saw someone who I haven't seen in almost 10 months. Do you all remember Rusty, the Haflinger gelding I rode for quite some time for the past two years? Well, I went out to go see him and Tucker on Saturday. Rusty immediately whinnied to me, and I ran over as fast as I could to see him. Mrs. June and I put him in his stall, and then he and I hung out for an hour or so. I found his itchy spots and I just pampered him, for the most part.

That feels so good!
Will post more soon!

November's 10 Questions

Hello all!
I found these ten questions over at this blog, http://rdxhorses.blogspot.com/. I thought I would do the ten questions also, so hang in with me! :)

1. Have you ever owned a horse? Yes. I own one horse (Ollie), and one mini (Rosie).

2. What is your favorite aspect of your discipline? I do many disciplines, riding in both an English and Western saddle, but I prefer Western disciplines because I have been riding in that style longer than I have English. Since I pretty much learned what I know now on a western saddle I seem to find it more comfortable. But I will be showing Ollie in English this next show season, and so I guess I will just have to learn to be comfortable with it!!

3. What pet peeves do you have concerning your discipline? When people are so concerned about one particular set of riding and they bash the other. When I ride Western disciplines and I run into people riding English they tend to get a little "iffy" and "snobby" about my horses clothes. When I ride English discipline's Western people tend to get really snotty about you. That is my biggest pet peeve.

4. Do you do barn chores?  Oh yes. All of them. I love it, too!!

5. What is your least favorite barn chore?  Cleaning the grooming tools and cleaning the saddle. I would rather be riding, personally.

6. What do you consider the worst vice in a horse? Spooking and bucking. They can be hard to break, and you can really lose your confidence when you ride a horse who is a spring underneath you, ready to blow at any minute. Yikes.

7. What saddle brand is your favorite? Don't have one.

8. Do you ride with a quarter sheet in the winter? Not yet, but I probably will with all of the riding I will do on Ollie during the Winter.

9. Does your horse wear boots? What kind? Ollie used to wear Easyboots with his former owner, but at this current moment he isn't using any.

10. Full seat or knee patch breeches? Right now I am wearing knee patch, but full seat sounds nice too. I actually prefer to use jeans with a western saddle. I actually "stick" better. Do you?

I hope you enjoyed my 10 questions! Kudos to all who have actually read all ten!! I applaud you!

Trail Ride

Mom and I went on a trail ride yesterday. I rode Rusty, and my mom rode my neighbor's 22 year old  bay QH gelding, Vegas. We rode five miles, and it was a lot of fun! I will do another post soon. Please remember to enter the giveaway!

Riding Rusty Part 2

Even though I have ridden Rusty more than twice, I have only posted about him two times.  I am sorry about that.

Yesterday I went over to Mrs. June's to ride Rusty. I worked on my posture, and did very well! I have bad muscle memory, and so I am fixing it. I also got to do all of the trot variations he knows. My favorite is the collected and extended trot. So fun!

Ah, isn't he just beautiful?

I started off with some ground work. He had just been taken off of the pasture, and he thought it was feeding time. So he was (at first) acting like well..a sassy little fella (remember, he is only four years old).
But he calmed down a lot after we had done some groundwork.

Then I got on......

Ignore my facial expression. :)

...and did some exercises on the lunge line to loosen my body up. It worked, because I rode the best yet!

I also trotted. While the canter is my favorite gait, the trot also makes me very happy. It makes me really love riding.

See!? I smile the whole time I ride.

Turning in a teardrop circle.

Mrs. June showed me how to do a collected trot.....

...and I tried it. Your movement has to be more exaggerated because he is young and still learning, as you can see in the pictures below.

It was a lot of fun. I can't wait to ride him again! Thanks, Mrs. June!
